All dogs need basic dog obedience training. They, like young children, must learn manners. Some canines display aggressive dog behavior, while others are constantly barking or whining. It is not uncommon to have a dog with behavior problems. So, if your dog is misbehaving, don't worry: many people are in the same predicament, and there is a solution! A common problem experienced by dog owners is dog aggression. Aggression is only one of many bad dog behaviors that can be prevented. To stop dog behavior problems, it is necessary to understand what is triggering them.
Correcting aggressive dogs is possible. To be able to do so, you must first get at the root, or cause, of the aggressive behavior. The most important question you must ask yourself is the following: Is my dog acting aggressively towards strangers, family members, or both. This is a critical question to answer. Your response will determine what kind of treatment is necessary.
If your dog only acts aggressively towards strangers, then it is necessary for you to learn how to socialize your dog. If your dog is aggressive towards family members, then you need to understand why resource guarding and dog pack behavior have a tremendous influence on your dog's actions. Dogs also show familial aggression when they are improperly handled or treated. It is important for each family member to learn what type handling/treatment can trigger aggression.
Aggressive is a difficult task in the absence of some form of guidance. Books on dog behavior are an excellent resource that can guide you through basic dog obedience training and help you learn how to stop dog behavior problems (for example, dog aggression). If your dog is disobedient, you'd prefer to train him in your home, and you want to save money, then a very smart investment would be a book about dog behavior.
Begin correcting aggressive dogs with these 5 Tips:
If he is still a puppy, expose your pet to as many new people and environments as possible.
Handle your puppy frequently, in a nonthreatening manner, so that he gets used to being touched.
Show your dog that it is you who rules the coop.
Obedience training lessons should never be too long, inconsistent, or sporadic.
Reward your dog with treats or attention when he obeys you, and seclude him when he fails to.
