Cause Of Heart Attacks And Strokes Besides Cholesterol
By Eugene Goh
There is a book by Dr Ray Strand titled: "What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You", where it is stated in the book that an average 15 percent of the strokes and heart attacks happening right now in the world today is caused by an elevated level of homocysteine in the blood.

What Is Homocysteine?

An intermediate by product produced when we are breaking down a type of essential amino acid, methionine. Methionine is found in big amount in the normal food that we eat every day like meat, canned foods, flour, fresh milk, processed foods and eggs.

We need Methionine in our body to survive and it is actually derived by converting homocysteine into cysteine or back to methionine. Now, cysteine and methionine not harmful to our body in any way but the problem is that we need certain type of enzymes to break down the by-product homocysteine into cysteine

or convert it back to methionine.

If the needed enzymes to break down homocysteine are not sufficient, the levels of the homocysteine in the blood will start to go up. Homocysteine is very different from because is needed by our own body to produce hormones and certain cell parts but homocysteine does not provide any benefits to our health at all. If the levels of homocysteine is high, then there will be a great risk of getting heart attacks and strokes but if the level of the homocysteine is low, the better it is for our body.

Do you know the levels of homocysteine in your blood? Have you checked it? Can I encourage you to check your homocysteine level since the cost of checking is less than $100 and have a peace of mind to know that you have a low level of homocysteine.

If you would like to know more about the nutrients that is needed to convert homocysteine into cysteine or methionine, you can find out more at http://www.howcanigethealthy.com/healthblog/heart-health/homocysteine-one-of-the-cause-of-heart-attacks/
